TaloVera starts where that list ends. We buy beef suet, the hard fat from around the kidneys that old butchers kept for themselves, and render it slowly at home. Then we whip it with pure aloe vera gel and a concentrated aloe extract. No added water. No dyes. No fragrance. Eleven ingredients, every one named on the jar and explained below. It goes on like a balm, sinks in, and stays put.

This is for knuckles that split open in February. For shins that go tight and flaky under a wool sock. For the face that feels drawn an hour after you already put something on it. It leaves skin feeling soft and moisturized, and it is fine on your face.

What's in it

Beef tallow, rendered from suet: Rich fats that stay put.; Suet is the hard fat from around the kidneys. We render it slowly, at home, and it is the reason this goes on like a balm instead of a lotion.
Pure aloe vera gel: Soothes and hydrates.; Gel, not juice, and not water with a drop of aloe in it. It is most of the jar, and it is why a fat this rich does not feel greasy.
Fractionated coconut oil: Keeps it gliding.; Coconut oil with the solid fats removed, so it stays liquid and spreads.
Jojoba oil: Conditions.; The closest plant match to skin's own oil.
Shea butter: Softens and conditions.; Unrefined, and what gives the cream its body on very dry skin.
Vegetable glycerine: Draws moisture in.; A humectant, and what keeps the whip soft enough to scoop.
Aloe vera powder (TruMannan extra, acemannan concentrate): Helps skin hold moisture.; The aloe compound this whole formula is built around, added on top of the gel.
Vitamin E oil: Helps the oils keep.; It keeps the tallow and the plant oils fresh in the jar.
Radish root ferment (Leucidal liquid): Preservative.; Radish roots fermented by the same family of bacteria that makes kimchi. It is the first line against anything growing in a jar that is mostly water.
Potassium sorbate: Preservative.; Less than a quarter of one percent of the jar, which is a fraction of what cosmetics commonly use. The paragraph under this list says what it is.
Emulsifying wax NF: Holds the fat and the aloe together.; Aloe is mostly water and tallow is fat. Without this the whip splits in the jar.

About the preservative, because we said nothing fake.

Aloe gel is mostly water, and anything with water in it will grow mold unless something stops it. Most big brands stop it with parabens, phenoxyethanol or a formaldehyde releaser. We use two things. Radish root ferment, which is exactly what it sounds like: radish roots fermented by the same bacteria that ferment kimchi. And a pinch of potassium sorbate, the salt of an acid first found in rowan berries, the same preservative in a bottle of wine, a wedge of cheese or a bag of dried fruit. Less than a quarter of one percent of the jar. Both are on the label. We would rather name them than sell you a jar that grows something.

Two products, one recipe. It's ours. We developed it, we make it, and it goes in both the jar and the tube.

There's no added water in it. That's the part people notice first. Water is what makes a lotion feel light and then vanish in an hour, because most of what you rubbed in evaporated. This doesn't do that. A little goes a long way and it stays where you put it.
